LG Revolution - First Look - Review with Specs and Features

LG Revolution Verizon Wireless Mobile Review with Full Detail

LG Revolution is the third cell phone to tap into Verizon's blazing-fast 4G speeds. Truth be told, there isn't much difference between the Revolution and the Thunderbolt or the Samsung Droid Charge ($299.99, 4 stars). But while the Revolution is a solid performer and offers Netflix, comparatively poor voice and camera performance keep it from besting the competition.

The Revolution is a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (850/1900 MHz) and 700 MHz 4G LTE device with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Verizon says to expect download speeds around 5 to 12 Mbps, and upload speeds between 2 and 5 Mbps on its 4G network. The LG Revolution hit these speeds without a hitch, averaging around 12 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up. You can also use the Revolution as a mobile hotspot with the appropriate plan to provide 4G data access for up to 8 devices, or 3G data for up to 5. Verizon is including the mobile hotspot feature free for a limited time, instead of charging an extra $20 per month; it worked great in my tests and can be very useful while traveling.Voice quality on the Revolution is just average. Incoming calls were clear enough, but voices had a tendency to sound robotic. On the other end, transmissions had a touch of robotic drone to them, and noise cancellation was poor. I was able to hear the sound of passing cars that didn't seem audible while making the call in the first place. The speakerphone is plenty loud for outdoor use, but voices sound gritty and harsh.

On the inside, the LG Revolution is packing the same second-generation 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU as the Thunderbolt. Our benchmark test suite confirmed it to be right on par with the Thunderbolt, which means that both phones are faster than the Droid Charge, which has an older Samsung Hummingbird CPU.The Revolution runs Android 2.2 (Froyo). There's no word yet on an update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Sadly, this phone has been Binged. The Revolution's search engine is set to Bing and its mapping engine is set to Bing Maps; the phone doesn't even come with Google Maps at all, although it's downloadable. There's no way to change this, and it's ridiculous. If you want Bing, you should get a Windows Phone. Android phones should use Google.
